Angels' Eyes, about tear staining

About tear staining,

why it happens and what can you do?

Many people wonder why some dogs and cats eyes water, which causes a stain on the fur just below their eyes. This condition is called Epiphora. When the facial hair is wet from excess tearing it is the breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. Not only is it unsightly but may be very irritating to your pet. The staining may also emit a moderate to noticeably strong odor.  Tear staining can be traced to health and diet, as well as genetics. Here are some helpful tips to improve your pets well being:

  • Keep your Pet Healthy: Have your pet checked at least twice a year by your veterinarian for ear infections and ear mites, gum infections, common yeast or bacterial infections of the eye (especially Red Yeast) and for clogged tear ducts.
  • Check your Pet’s Diet: Artificial food colorings (dyes), artificial food additives and preservatives, corn, wheat and soy can cause allergies in cats and dogs. These allergies can cause tear stains. Also check for face rubbing, licking of front paws, head shaking, and ear inflammations these are other signs of allergies. Water minerals can also add to tear staining. Use bottled or filtered water in a stainless steel bowl.
  • Keep your Pet’s Eyes Clean: Hair in the eyes can cause infections and irritation. Eyelashes can grow at abnormal angles and rub on the eye. Check your pet’s eyes regularly. Also check for collected dust, stray hairs, and dried tears. Any foreign matter in the eye is likely to lead to tear stains.
  • Hygiene: Keep your pet’s eyes clean. Always wash your hands first before touching the area around their eyes. Wash your pet frequently. Always make sure you comb them first before washing to remove any knots or matts. Keep the shampoo out of their eyes to avoid irritation.

Learn about The Ideal Method, reiki for your pet

If you are interested in booking a session for your pet or even for yourself, please follow this link.
A word from Sheila and Debbie:
‘The Ideal Method’ of facilitating healing in people and pets was founded upon a need that we have witnessed in the world for a deeper connection between people, people and animals, and people and spirit (which is personal and unique for everyone). With Reiki energy healing as the foundation of every session, we weave in various methods of healing support as we are guided based on your or your pet’s needs that day.

Regardless of whether the reason for your visit is a physical, emotional or spiritual one, you can be assured that your concerns will be addressed in a gentle, supportive, and loving manner that will improve your own sense of well-being (and/or your pet’s, if the appointment is for them) and will improve your relationships with others as well.  It is our desire and goal to erase your pain and suffering immediately so that you can live your life to its fullest potential, following your dreams and creating the life you imagine.
Healing Sessions for your Pet

There are two types of healing sessions that are offered for animals.  You are welcome to choose which type is the best fit for your current situation but if you aren’t sure which one to choose, Sheila and Debbie will make that determination for you after gathering all of the pertinent information about your pet and understanding the goals you wish to achieve at the end of the session (or series of sessions).
Reiki Healing For Animals with Intuitive Messages

This is a Reiki session that is focused on the animal from the healer’s intuitive perspective.  During this healing session, Debbie or Sheila will connect intuitively with your pet and will scan their body energetically to find physical imbalances or causes of physical symptoms.  If there is a behavioral or emotional issue that needs to be addressed, they will connect with the animal energetically to find the cause of the issue and correct it.  All physical, mental and emotional imbalances appear in the energy field as distortions and once those distortions are located with telepathic vision, they can be healed or strengthened.  Many times, an animal may not know why they are sick or behaving a certain way.  During these times when it is more beneficial to approach their symptoms from an outside (healer’s) perspective, this type of session is the best choice.  Note that it may take more than one session to remedy the issue and you should notice improvement with each session.

Sessions can be conducted in person or at a distance.  Distance (phone) sessions offer the convenience of staying in the comfort of your own home but receiving all of the same benefits as an in-person session.
Canine Massage

Human touch is an essential, healthy part of bonding with your pet.  Massage comforts your pet just as it does humans and is a wonderful way to ease physical and emotional discomfort and stress.  Massage wonderfully compliments your dog's care at any life stage and for all activity levels especially if your pet is having mobility issues due to age related illnesses or is recovering from an injury or surgery.  Massage helps reduces pain, increase range of motion, and promotes relaxation to support the natural healing process. Therapeutic massage combined with Reiki gives your dog a comforting visit that reconnects him or her to the Universal Life Energy necessary for natural balance and wellness.

Danger of Fleas and Ticks for Dogs

From SuperHappyPets.com

Ticks can transmit a number of diseases, including Lyme, Ehrlichia, Babesiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Anaplasmosis. Some of these are potentially lethal.

Flea infestation can lead to skin infections, tapeworms, hair loss from scratching, and anemia. This anemia can be life-threatening, especially in puppies and geriatric animals. Flea Allergic Dermatitis (FAD) is quite common, in which even a single bite can cause a severe rash.

Signs of Infection

Ticks bury their head under the skin and stay in one spot. When they first attach they may be as small as a pinhead, but they enlarge when they become engorged with blood. They often attach in warm areas, such as the neck or head.

Flea infection usually leads to itching, although some animals are not allergic to the bites and do not develop a severe rash. While you may see actual fleas on your dog, the most common sign is flea dirt, pepper-like granules in the coat, especially on the rump and groin. These are found by either parting the coat or using a special "flea comb" with narrow-spaced teeth. To determine if what you find is flea dirt, which is actually digested blood, place the granules on a moistened white paper towel. Rub them gently; if the paper towel turns orange or red, your pet has flea dirt. It is not necessary to find actual fleas to confirm an infection.

9 Reasons Your Parents May Need a Dog, by Mary Sullivan of The Honest Kitchen

Let’s face it—we aren’t getting any younger
and neither are our parents.

But we don’t like to think about it, because it worries us. We’re constantly thinking and worrying about their safety as well as, physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Although, we cannot completely protect them from illness and harm, there are preventative measures they can take to avoid many obstacles that come with old age. I’m not talking about taking a dozen raw vitamins a day or signing up for self-defense courses. (Although, those may be useful.) I’m just talking about dogs, man’s best friend. Here are a few ways having a dog around the house may keep your parents young.

Security System

First and foremost, your parent’s at home safety is very important considering this is where they spend most of their time, sleep, and keep their belongings. Having a dog inside and/or outside the house is a great security system. In the case of an intruder, they have a much greater chance of being warned of an unwanted presence.

Property Line Enforcement

Dogs are also great for keeping larger animals (raccoons, stray cats, etc…) out of your fathers beloved workshop and/or your mother’s dream garden that she’s been working her entire life to maintain.

Exercise

Regardless of the dog’s age, all dogs need to get exercise. This is a perfect way for your parent(s) to get exercise, too. Even if it’s just for a few minutes every day or multiple hours a week; any exercise is better than no exercise. And dogs are the perfect work out buddies, because they never over sleep their alarms for early workouts and always have energy at the end of the day for night walks!

Alone Time

A dog will give your parents a break from each other! We all know that you really just cannot be around the same person all of the time. Having a dog around the house is great for getting space from your loved ones when needed.

And vice versa!

Having a dog may also create new activities for them to do together. Such as, going on walks, going to dog parks, etc… After all, variety is the spice of life and a little bit of spice goes a long way.

Socializing

Getting out of the house more often allows more opportunities for your parent(s) to socialize; this is a huge part of their well-being. We are humans; we need to socialize. It’s in our nature. Maybe they’ll even get a few new friends out of the deal. Who knows?

Constant Companion

For the people who only have one parent or whose parents are separated, a dog is an excellent way to keep them from becoming lonely, since you can only visit so often due to your full-time job and living far away.

Winding Down

They help with stress; which is one thing your parents shouldn’t have to do anymore. They’ve stressed out enough throughout their lives. It’s time for them to relax. Even the presence of a K9 is a great way to decrease anxiety. Hence, why some universities will bring dogs to campus during finals week.

Fill Up the Empty Nest

And lastly, when you cannot be there to give your mom and/or dad a kiss and hug on their birthday, you know that their dog has got you covered.

This is just a short list of ways and reasons why it may be a good idea for you to have a little powwow with your parent(s) about looking into finding a dog suitable for them. Although younger dogs have more energy, perhaps it is best for them to look into getting a young to middle-aged dog. They already went through teaching potty training and fundamentals while raising kids and perhaps they’re not up for round two in their older age. Although this is not true with all older dogs, they do tend to be more set in their ways, have lowered senses, and may not be as friendly to new people.

It really is funny how drastically the tables turn when you’re the one worried sick about them rather than them being worried about you. Having a dog around may just makes everyone sleep a little bit better at night.
